At Wilder Fox, we work closely with professionals and businesses across the construction industry – from commercial through to residential. Following the re-election of the Albanese federal government and the continued leadership of the Minns Labor Government in NSW, the construction industry is entering a pivotal phase of reform and opportunity.
On the residential front, the government has committed to easing the housing crisis through planning reforms and targeted support for developers. Key measures include the Low and Mid-Rise Housing Policy, aiming to unlock 112,000 new homes over five years, and initiatives to accelerate approvals and access to finance – critical moves as the sector faces ongoing supply chain and labor challenges.
For the commercial construction sector, the outlook is cautiously optimistic. The NSW Government’s record $118.3 billion infrastructure pipeline – focused on hospitals, schools, transport, and precinct revitalisation, presents strong opportunities for contractors, suppliers, and commercial developers. These projects are expected to create jobs, boost demand for industrial and mixed-use developments, and strengthen the state’s economic backbone.
However, high borrowing costs and skills shortages remain a concern across both sectors. While the broader economy is forecast to rebound with GDP growth of 2.1% in 2025, construction firms will need to balance cost pressures with an evolving regulatory landscape and rising demand.
In both residential and commercial sectors, Wilder Fox believes that NSW is gearing up for transformation however it will require resilience, collaboration, and adaptability to fully seize the momentum, to grow sustainably and confidently into the future.
